For nearly 50 years, The Studio Museum in Harlem’s Artist-in-Residence program has supported and nurtured more than 100 emerging artists of African descent. In July 2015, The Studio Museum and WNYC announced an exciting new partnership seeking to nurture connections within this unique, creative community and amplify their voices across New York City and beyond. This live artist talk featured 2014-15 AIR Sadie Barnette, Lauren Halsey and Eric Mack in conversation with AIR alumni Xenobia Bailey, Sanford Biggers and Xaviera Simmons, and marked the opening of their yearlong, satellite exhibition in The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space. WNYC also helped produce day-in-the-life-of videos which further illustrate the creativity and curiosity driving each artist’s practice.
