Studio Squared: Fashion Figures

  • The Studio Museum in Harlem 144 W 125th St New York, NY, 10027 United States (map)

Studio Squared is a series of informal art-making workshops aimed at making a wide range of studio practices accessible to adult audiences. Each workshop focuses on a particular theme and creative process inspired by our exhibitions, and explores methods of creative production through an experiential approach. Following a brief tour of Speaking of People: Ebony, Jet and Contemporary Art led by teaching artist Warren Bradley—a founding member of Studio Squared—participants will then head to the theater where they will learn the basics of fashion sketching to create original, mixed-media magazine covers! Throughout the session, Warren will take pause to discuss the prevalence of Ebony and Jet in black households; discuss the role Eunice Johnson’s seminal Fashion Fair played in defining notions of black beauty; and experiment with using diverse materials and collage methods to shift industry standards of beauty.
