The Artist's Voice: Nontsikelelo Mutiti in Conversation with Amy Sall

Join Salon Style artist Nontsikelelo Mutiti and Amy Sall, founder and Editor-In-Chief of SUNU: Journal of African Affairs, Critical Thought + Aesthetics, for this special edition of The Artist's Voice. The program will begin with an interactive tour of Salon Style in which Mutiti will explore shared references and other connections between her own work and that of others in the exhibition. Then, participants will head to the theater, where Mutiti and Sall will discuss braiding as an art form throughout the African Diaspora, as well as the braiding salon as a multifunctional, ever-changing space. Mutiti will also present her immense collection of combs and braiders' business cards, which will frame their discussion of the culture of braiding as it relates to a wide range of topics, including entrepreneurship, semiotics, body language, graphic design and immigration.
